October 16, 2013: 30th Birthday! We went to the Berlin Cathedral and had a leisurely morning.  Almost too leisurely! We had a 2:01pm train to catch to Frankfurt so we busted it to the HBF and caught it by 2 minutes. We had a first class cabin to ourselves which was great, BUT I accidentally booked it in the QUIET CABIN. Whoops.

It was a nice train ride, and we were 20 minutes from Frankfurt… when the train stopped.  Announcements were in German and staff didn’t speak English. I found someone to translate for me and basically someone had been spotted on the tracks and they were concerned for security reasons. They had to turn the train around and take us a different way which added four hours to our trip. This pretty much derailed our plan (pun *intended*) of getting sleep and keep the girls up on the plane to avoid re-entry jetlag.  We didn’t get to sleep until 11pm and had to be up at 5am the next morning to catch our flight home.  Gross.
