November 6, 2014 [Travel Edition]: St. John certainly isn’t the easiest place to get to, which makes it even harder to leave! We were packed up early so we headed down to the car ferry nearly an hour early… thankfully. Turns out that only 1 of the 3 car ferries were running today, so we waited… and waited… and waited. It’s a 20-25 minute ride, so about 1 hour per boat roundtrip. And it finally hit the point where we realized that if we didn’t catch the next boat, we weren’t making our flight. Boat arrives, cars come off, cars go on. And we creeped up slowly. Then out of nowhere, the USPS truck flies past the line and right on the boat. And when it comes down to it… we’re the first car for the next boat. We were already in reverse ready to back up, and a lady looked in and saw the girls in the back seat. She started sweet talking them, so I kindly asked “Ma’am, we’re trying to catch our flight home and if we don’t make it on this boat we aren’t going to make our flight.” She thankfully cared, and told the men on the boat they needed to make room for “the babies”. So they pulled several cars off, tightened it all up, and then squeezed us between 2 rows of cars before pulling out. Phew.
We got to the airport, checked in quickly, and walked straight to the plane from security. Em enjoyed her first class seat and the ‘super fancy’ meal. (Post-note: She played pretend ‘fancy plane meal’ for days afterwards.)
Quick layover in ATL and then another flight home. And just like that, another great trip is in the books.
