May 15, 2012: Welcome home, luggage! I guess checking in 3 hours early for a nonstop flight home is apparently too much for a bag to come home with you. Come on, Delta!

May 14, 2012: Heading home! We pulled over in Kingston, NY for lunch and decided to ‘go local’. In summary, I can now see why most people just pull in to McD’s and keep rolling! The first restaurant didn’t have high chairs (?!), the 2nd only served breakfast, and the 3rd didn’t have seating at all. So we decided to to go to a local park on the Hudson River and have a picnic. In total, it took us 2 hours from getting off the interstate to back on. Phew!
From there we made a stop at Coney Island, which Jen described as “absolutely nothing like I expected it to be.” It does look pretty fun and cheerful in movies, but on a rainy Monday in May, it was a desolate, graffiti’d mess. Regardless, we got Nathan’s Famous and then went on to JFK to catch our flight home.
We had 3 hours before our flight, so I tried to wear down the little one by letting her run all across Terminal 2. She made it from one end to the other nearly 4 times, and…. it didn’t work. She was a hot mess on the flight (which landed 3 hours past her bedtime), so we were glad to get home. What a great trip!

May 13, 2012: Happy Mother’s Day! I spent the morning working, and then after Em’s nap we headed to the TulipFest in Albany, NY. The tulips bloomed early this year because of all the great weather, but there were still a few flowers left to see! Lots of vendor booths, food stalls and trucks, and live entertainment as well. We were surprised with how big the event was!
The funny story of the day happened when I was laying on the ground. Em took my camera, put the strap around her neck, and started taking pictures! It was hilarious. So the first 3 pictures are from Em. Her first pictures taken! She was even nice enough to get one of Jen and I.

May 12, 2012: Another LONG but great day in the city! After 3 days of sitting in her stroller, naps 2-3 hours later than normal, and bedtimes 1-2 hours past normal… Em is ready to go out in a huge field and RUN RUN RUN! Needless to say, she was pretty beat by the end of the day (see last pic!).
We spent most of our day at the Brooklyn Flea, which was pretty hipster but quite a bit of fun. Usher and Dave Hester (YUUUUP!!) from Storage Wars were spotted as well. Delicious food too! We scored some great retro finds, from some 50’s-70’s pyrex for Jen’s kitchen design idea, to several maps from the 1800’s for our dining room design.
After wrapping things up around 5pm with a final stop by Times Square to make some returns and purchases, we packed up and hopped in the car! (Fun fact: our rental car, a Ford Edge Limited, had 51.1 miles when we got it! It’ll be over 500 when we return it.)

May 11, 2012: We started our day at the Terracotta Warrior exhibit, which was a collection of artifacts from the 200 B.C. time period. Amazing preservation from the Qin Dynasty in China!
From there we took a stroll from Times Square over to 5th Ave and up, up, up until we hit FAO Schwarz. It was fun to see Emelyn’s expressions, especially around all of the stuffed animals since she’s learning all of their sounds! Yeah, Jen got a little excited at FAO Schweetz too. :) The girls played around on the Big Piano a bit, and we saw the Statue of Liberty (LEGO edition!).
For supper, we decided to head to Chinatown and it did not disappoint. At H.K.’s Wonton Garden we had a delicious meal of Duck and Wonton Noodle Soup, Fried Wontons, Vegetable Fried Rice and a Chicken and Veggie Noodle dish. Really, really good food.
Back to the hotel, brushed the teeth, and called it a night! Tomorrow = Brooklyn.

May 10, 2012: The Big Apple! We landed in New York City this afternoon and spent the evening seeing some of the sights. After a quick nap for Em (we encourage jumping on the bed to test its safety :) ), and some delicious Shake Shack for lunch we hopped on the subway up to Central Park. We had afternoon tea at Argo Tea, took a stroll through Central Park, and stopped to look at the Apple Store. From there we headed to Times Square to see the glitz and glamour, and Em was mesmerized! We finished off the night with some fantastic NYC pizza. What a great day!
